HIT MACHINE celebrates it's 10 year anniversary this New Years Eve! Created by frontman Bart Hafeman, this 5 piece band is a northwest party favorite playing all the best dance tunes from the 70's & 80's through today with an infectious energy! Hit Machine has been the guest of many prominent northwest events including headlining Hood to Coast 2010-2013 in Seaside, headlining the Fort Vancouver Fireworks 2011-2013, playing many Blazer Playoff games down at the Rose Garden and opening for REO Speedwagon. Additionally, Bart Hafeman released his solo cd of original material this year entitled, "Zero Gravity".
We are very excited to have special guests, Portland's own Valerie Day and John Smith of NU SHOOZ! NU SHOOZ scored two major pop / R&B / dance hits. "I Can't Wait" climbed to #2 on the R&B charts and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1986 and spent 15 weeks in the Top 40, and it also hit #1 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart earlier that year. Its follow-up, "Point Of No Return", was remixed by Shep Pettibone and also topped the dance chart in September 1986; the song peaked at #28 on the Hot 100 and #35 on the R&B charts. Both singles were on the album Poolside, which charted on Billboard's 200 chart at #27, and sold a half million copies in the U.S., garnering gold record RIAA certification on October 2, 1986.
In 1987, Nu Shooz was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best New Artist category, based on its breakthrough success the previous year.
Equally excited to have veteran musician TOM GRANT featured as our welcoming musician on solo piano. Tom was born in Portland, Oregon to a musical family – his father was a tap dancer who owned a record store in Portland, and his brother was an avant-garde jazz pianist. At a young age, Grant learned to play piano and drums. After graduating from the University of Oregon, he traveled to New York City in 1970 with Native American saxophonist Jim Pepper. This led to Grant touring and recording with jazz greats Woody Shaw, Charles Lloyd, and Tony Williams.
In 1976, Grant cut his first solo record for Timeless and in 1979 he formed his own band. Beginning in 1983, Tom Grant started recording a series of jazz-influenced pop albums that have variously been called "New Adult Contemporary," "Quiet Storm," "Contemporary Jazz" and "Smooth Jazz"; each have been best-sellers in the "lite jazz" market. Grant has been featured on CNN and has been a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In addition, Tom Grant has composed music for TV and radio.
